How SEN Space is Supporting the Community with Essential Services

SEN Space is at the heart of the Lisburn and Castlereagh community, providing crucial support to families with children who have additional needs. As the only service of its kind in the area, SEN Space fills a vital gap, offering a safe, nurturing, and non-judgemental environment for both children and their families.

A Crucial Resource for Children with Additional Needs

For many children with additional needs, typical parks and public spaces can be overwhelming and inaccessible. The sights, sounds, and chaotic nature of these environments often mean that these children miss out on the social and sensory experiences so crucial to their development. SEN Space provides a much-needed alternative, where every child can safely explore, engage, and learn in a supportive, sensory-friendly environment.

Our services cater specifically to children who cannot avail of the usual public spaces. We focus on creating tailored sensory experiences, designed to help children with sensory processing issues feel at ease while also encouraging their growth and development.

A Safe Space for Families

At SEN Space, we don’t just support children – we provide a safe, non-judgemental environment for parents and families too. Parenting a child with additional needs can feel isolating, but at SEN Space, families can come together, socialise, and network with others who understand their journey. Our space fosters a sense of community where both children and parents can feel supported, connected, and understood.

The Inspiration Behind SEN Space

SEN Space was founded by Vikki, a parent of children with additional needs. Vikki, like so many parents, found it difficult to access the support that her children needed. She realised that she wasn’t alone – many other families in the area were also struggling to find spaces and services that catered to their children’s unique needs. Determined to make a difference, she created SEN Space to be the safe haven that her own family and others desperately needed.

Driven by her personal experience, Vikki built SEN Space from the ground up with a vision of creating a community where children with additional needs could thrive, and where parents could feel empowered and supported. Her story is one of resilience, and her work has had a profound impact on families throughout Lisburn and Castlereagh.

A Community Lifeline

SEN Space is more than just a service – it’s a lifeline for families in the community who otherwise struggle to find suitable support. By offering sensory-friendly activities, specialised support, and a non-judgemental environment, SEN Space is making an invaluable difference in the lives of both children and parents.
