SEN Space was thrilled to announce our Spooktacular Sunday event, which took place on the 20th of October 2024 in Dunmurry, BT17. This Halloween family fun day provided a wide range of exciting activities designed specifically for children with additional needs, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and sensory-friendly experience for all.
The event ran across two sessions, from 11 AM – 1 PM and 2 PM – 4 PM, with tickets priced at £15 per child. The day was packed full of Halloween-themed activities that captured the imagination of every child, while also supporting their sensory and developmental needs.
What Happened on the Day?
SEN-Friendly Pumpkin Patch
The pumpkin patch was a calming and engaging space for children to explore. This SEN-friendly environment allowed children to enjoy the magic of Halloween without feeling overwhelmed. Whether they were picking out the perfect pumpkin or just enjoying the sensory experience, there was fun for every child.
Sensory Play
A key highlight of the day was the sensory play area, where children engaged in stimulating activities tailored to support their sensory processing. Sensory play was crucial for children with additional needs, helping them regulate their emotions, develop fine motor skills, and interact with their environment in a positive way. We understood that Halloween events can sometimes be overwhelming, so this space was designed to offer a calming and engaging experience for all participants.
Arts and Crafts
The arts and crafts station offered a creative outlet where children enjoyed hands-on activities in a relaxed setting. From making spooky decorations to painting pumpkins, children had the opportunity to express themselves and take home their own Halloween creations.
Pumpkin Carving
Children joined in the fun with our pumpkin carving activity. This fully supervised session ensured that even young children participated safely while exploring their creativity. Each child had the chance to carve their very own pumpkin, adding their unique touch to this Halloween tradition.
Costume Contest
Families were encouraged to bring their little ones dressed up! The costume contest celebrated the creativity and individuality of each child, with prizes for the most imaginative and fun costumes. Whether children dressed as classic Halloween characters or something completely unique, the contest was all about having fun and embracing the spirit of the season.
Why is Sensory Play So Important?
At SEN Space, we understand that children with additional needs often require environments that support their sensory experiences. This event was carefully designed to provide opportunities for sensory play throughout the day, allowing children to engage with different textures, sounds, and sights in a controlled manner. These activities helped children build sensory processing skills while also having fun. Through the touch of a pumpkin or the sounds of Halloween, our sensory play stations aimed to be both engaging and therapeutic for the children who attended.
A Spooktacular Day of Halloween Fun!
SEN Space is committed to creating inclusive, supportive environments where all children, including those with additional needs, can enjoy celebrations in a way that feels safe and welcoming. Spooktacular Sunday was not just about Halloween fun – it was about ensuring that every child felt comfortable, engaged, and included.
Families secured tickets through Eventbrite, and we were delighted to celebrate this spooktacular day with so many wonderful children and their families!
